Sergey Nazarov: the oracle problem beyond one data feed

The Chainlink thesis, its contribution to smart-contract infrastructure, and the dependencies it cannot erase.

Why it matters

Oracle design exposes a hard boundary: a blockchain can agree perfectly about bad or manipulated input.

The build

Chainlink coordinates multiple data providers and node operators, then combines responses under explicit contract rules. Later work expanded the thesis toward computation, automation and cross-chain messaging.

What proved useful

Price feeds became important to lending, derivatives and stablecoin systems. Their adoption shows that external truth is core infrastructure rather than a minor application detail.

Unremoved trust

Decentralization can reduce single-source failure, but data provenance, operator incentives, update thresholds, governance and cross-chain assumptions remain.
